Despite the big smiles in the pictures in my last post, there aren't many smiles for the little guy today. He started getting congested yesterday, and it was full blown wheezing and a lovely, hacking cough by this morning. It was to the point where we were doing what all new parents dread they'll have to do...we had to decide whether he was bad enough to the take to the ER or whether he could wait on the doctor, who only had an opening several hours later. The answer came pretty quickly. God was so good, because through a few phone calls and some wonderful nurses, we were able to actually get him in even before the clinic technically opened this morning. Praise Him!
After several scary moments of the nurse examining him and then rushing out of the room saying, "I have to get the doctor!", the doctor listened to his chest and tested his oxygen concentration levels. He finally concluded that Garrett has a respiratory virus. They gave the poor guy two breathing treatments, full mask and all, and the wheezing improved. My older sister had chronic asthma growing up, and seeing that mask on his sweet little face and hearing that machine sound sure brought back lots of memories of her struggling to breathe. Once the treatments were over, we were told that he didn't need to go to the hospital but that the next two days would be critical to watch. So, as of right now, he's getting breathing treatments every four hours and also taking steroids. Did I happen to mention that they also discovered he has an ear infection, so he's taking antibiotics, too. Yes, our son is an over achiever!
We would appreciate any prayers for the little guy and for us as we try to take care of him the best way we know how!

How is Mr. Garrett?
He's feeling MUCH better! It took a while, but he was feeling better right in time for Chrismas Eve. You're so sweet to check on him!
