The weekend of Garrett's 1st birthday, our cousins from Dallas and we took him to Kemah for the 1st time to see the boardwalk and to ride the ferris wheel. He loved it!

Another 1st happened when we were in Lubbock for Memorial Day. We all decided that it was time for Garrett's 1st haircut. Okay, everyone else decided, and Mommy had to be convinced. None the less, Garrett's Papa thought his grandson needed to have his 1st haircut done by a real barber. Being a girl, I wasn't aware of the time honored tradition in West Texas of a boy's 1st haircut. My dad told us that he got his 1st one done in the same barber's chair that his granddad and his dad got their first haircut in. His hair was also cut by the same barber who cut his dad's hair for the 1st time back in the 1930's. Because of all of that, Papa wanted his grandson to have his 1st haircut done by the barber who now cuts his hair in a traditional, old timey barbershop.

Garrett did great during the whole thing! He barely moved, except to double check his Daddy was still close by and to look at the barber every once in a while with a look of, "And you're about to do what with those scissors and clippers?" At the end, the barber told us that a part of the haircut tradition is that a boy's 1st haircut is always free. They also gave us a certificate signed by the barber saying, "This certificate acknowledges Garrett Lee Wright's gradution from babyhood to boyhood and ended without traumatic results to mother or son." Yes, it went right into his baby book, along with several of his baby curls that Mommy was really sad to see go! :-)

The pics of his hair cut are way too cute. I'm such a sap you almost had me crying. I have yet to get Jack's hair cut and I really need to since he's starting to look like a bit of a hippy!
Congrats on all of Garrett's firsts! He is so cute! Hope you and Jeff are doing well!
