Rodeo Time in Houston

It's rodeo time in Houston!

My friend, Kelly, and I decided to take G, G, and Mia this week to play at the Houston Rodeo! We had been blessed by Nanny with free passes and a gift of a carnival coupon book with tons of tickets, so we let the kids run wild! We kept reminding them that part of the rodeo is the "livestock" part, but besides Grace loving the petting zoo, carnival rides were what the three musketeers wanted to do...over...and over...and over again! We decided to just let them have at it!

Grace was just barely tall enough to be able to ride the rides without an adult. At one point when they were measuring her, Kelly told her to tilt her head back. I think the head tilt plus her natural hair "bump it" and her bow were the things that helped her reach that magical height. She loved being "big" like the other two kids. (It also saved me and Kel from having to ride every single ride, even though we did get to ride our fair share. My head is still spinning from the spinning dragons ride!)

This is one of my favorite pics of the day. Garrett's face says, "She's smiling, but do you realize I'm a boy riding in a sparkly pink and purple train car!"

We did convince them to take a break from the carnival rides for a little bit to do the Farmer's Market. At the end, Garrett had been a typical first born and only picked one of each fruit and vegetable like they were told to do. Grace on the other hand had such a full basket of "goodies" that she could barely carry it!

This was the part of the trip when Grace realized she wasn't tall enough for all the rides Garrett and Mia could ride...and...she wasn't happy about the situation. She tried to figure out how she got such a raw deal!

Kelly and I made it up to her by letting her fly down a several story high slide at lightening speed. She was happy after that!

In the spirit of all things rodeo this week, the kids had Rodeo Day at school today. They got all dressed up in their cowboy/cowgirl duds! Garrett wears his boots a lot and tends to wear them just like he is in this picture. My grandmother always laughs and says that my great-grandfather would have asked Garrett if "he had one cow in the field or two"!

Btw, when I picked them up this afternoon, Grace's teachers asked her to tell me what her favorite part of Rodeo Day was. Her answer quickly was, "I let the bunny go!" She apparently thought the bunny in the petting zoo needed to be set free, so she took him out of the cage and let him loose. I think the teachers and parent volunteers got their exercise chasing the bunny all over the place. This kid and animals!

Giddy up from Houston!
