Let the Maroon Brainwashing Begin!

We've been wanting to take the kids to Aggieland for a while now but haven't found the right time. A couple of weekends ago though, we came across a pair of football tickets being sold for the Kansas game. It was time for the maroon brainwashing to begin.







Since there were only two tickets, Mommy and Grace dropped the boys off and spent some quality time shopping and eating in town while they took in all the excitement of Kyle Field. I don't think I'll ever forget the image of Garrett walking towards the stadium holding Jeff's hand. Not only did they look like twins dressed just alike, but Garrett just looked so young and so grown up all at the same time. I watched them for such a long time before I drove off.

Mommy may have been sappy and weepy. The boys on the other hand were not. Jeff said our boy loved every minute of his first Aggie football game!





One of his favorite parts of the game was the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band at halftime. At the end of it, they did their famous “Block T” with not only the band but the entire Corps of Cadets, which has 2,100 members. It was the first time it had been done on Kyle Field since 1956. Incredible!



During the 4th quarter, we girls had finished our shopping and decided to head back to campus to take in some traditions of our own. With all the people walking around, I thought Grace needed a good place to run and play, so we walked to the quad. It was so much fun watching her outside my old college dorm. Good ol' Spence hasn't changed much at all. It's still a converted corps dorm with shoebox sized rooms and a priceless view of constant corps activity and tradition. If you don't bleed maroon when you get there in the fall, you definitely will when you leave Spence in the spring.



Once the slaughter of Kansas was done at Kyle Field, the guys caught up with us at the quad.



Garrett convinced Grace that playing football was better than collecting rocks (her new fascination for some reason). Watching my son toss an Aggie football around with his Daddy on the A&M campus made him look so old to his Mommy!



The rest of our trip was spent walking around campus.



We even caught the end of the victory yell practice on the steps of the YMCA building.



A visit wouldn't be complete without going by the century tree, the place where Jeff and I got engaged 12 years ago!





Before Garrett's first Aggie football game, he talked non-stop about Texas Tech and even let the letters UT cross his lips on occasion("hiss"!). Nowadays around here, it's a whole lot more of "Go Aggies!" and gig 'em thumbs up! Whoop for some good ol' healthy brainwashing!
