Quick update on Grace...

Mommy and Grace had a pretty good night here at the hospital. Even with several cold sponge baths to lower her fever, a few rounds of antibiotics, a couple heal pricks to draw blood, and a three-week-old wide awake at times in the early morning hours, we were able to get some much needed rest. She actually spent most of the night sleeping and snoring on my chest.

The best news was that this morning her fever had dropped to 99.9 and then 99.5 degrees!!! PTL!!! It's fluctuated back and forth between that and 100.5 this morning, but overall, it's much lower than yesterday! If it's bacterial, the antibiotics are working, and if it's viral, then her body is healing just like it's supposed to be right now.

Overall, God is being her ultimate Healer and making her fever go down and her body feel better! I have to say that we have been completely overwhelmed and humbled by all of your sweet messages, calls, and texts saying that you're praying for Grace and for us! You will never know what they all have meant to us! Please know that your prayers are being answered!

As for the next step, we are still going to be here until at least in the morning, when they get the cultures back from the lab to rule out a bacterial infection. So far, the tests have ruled out two of the top three bacterial infections it possibly could be. The last one they're checking on is a type of bacterial blood infection. The initial tests had a small red flag, but the doctor is almost positive it's not a true infection but possibly what she called a "contaminant" that was transferred from the natural bacteria on Grace's skin during the initial draw they did in the ER. They're going to retest the sample today. We're praying the doctor is right and the retest comes back negative for a bacterial infection. That would mean we would be back home again in the morning as a fam of four!

P.S. A few quick pics from our stay so far at Texas Children's...yes, we have lots of time on our hands...you can see her IV and padded splint taped to her poor arm to keep it in place...she looks like a tiny bird with a wounded wing...



Now, who says you can't look pretty even at the hospital! Really, we haven't had a bow on her sweet little feverish head except to the take the picture. That would be just down right be cruel, right?!?
