Oh, the Blessed Thumb

She's officially found her thumb! Goodbye paci and hello to her blessed thumb! Why blessed, you ask. Blessed because her finding her thumb instead of needing a paci means that she officially slept 8 hours last night without making a peep! Oh, the blessed rest for everyone in the house!



For a few weeks now, she's been going 8 hours or so at night without being hungry but has been waking up around 4:00 or 5:00 crying and fussing. One of us would go put her paci in her mouth, and our sweet little one would go back to sleep. The problem came when the paci would fall out. She would cry and fuss again. One of us would go right back in there and put her paci back in her mouth. The game would continue until about 7:00 or so when she was finally not only awake but hungry.

Why did we play this crazy game for several weeks? Well, not only did we not want her screaming in the middle of the night with her room right next door to her older brother's, we knew that if she wasn't hungry but we kept feeding her in the middle of the night, the sleep that had been alluding us would keep hiding from us month after month. We know that the game could have also continued for month after month, but God took pity on us and let her find that blessed thumb!

Oh, yes, we know that we are probably headed down a slippery slope leading to not only visits to our local orthodontist but also to wailing and gnashing of teeth when we try to break her of the habit. But, oh, for crying out loud, she just slept for 8 hours solid! God is good! :-)
